Recorded at East Bridge House, Colchester during the latter days of lockdown 3.0. After a fruitless search for an artist studio in the area, I embarked on a period of hot desking (Sharing a space with other office users in the area). My brief was to compose using an ultra minimal set up in the evening, pack up and leave the desk clear for zoom meetings the next morning. Perhaps subconsciously echoing the heroics performed by C64 composer Rob Hubbard in his realisation of the Commando Soundtrack in the mid 80's. All songs were composed by interfacing ultra portable 8-bit Hapines and Acid 8 Sound modules (courtesy of twisted electrons) to my laptop running Logic Pro X and FL20. All sounds were generated via hardware only and no sampling or FX were used. The art work pays tribute to the sterile corporate setting in which they were composed. The title of the album parodies Sonic Youth's uncharacteristically corporate 2008 Starbuck compilation CD 'Hits Are for Squares', a CD whose corporate imagery is similarly at odds with the counter-cultural audio soundtrack enclosed within.
