about

All tracks explore the limitations of the Gameboy Advance Soundchip. Creating powerful and warm tones through hacking a simple humble consumer device. The title of the album refers to the Direct Sound protocol that is transmitted through the devices speaker/headphone port. Tracks 1-4, 6-7, 9, 15 recorded between Feb-March 2021 and October-December 2021 using Gameboy Advance Cat Skull GBA midi adapter, Roland SH-201 Synthesiser and sequencing in Logic Pro. Tracks 5,8, 12-14, 17-21 recorded using using Gameboy Advance Cat Skull GBA midi adapter and Logic Pro (outtakes from Planned Obsolescence sessions 2019-2020). Tracks 10,11 and 16 recorded using Gameboy Advance and Nanoloop 2.0 in 2006.
